Layton's Legacy Card Drive & Fundraiser for NICU Parents
May 8th - 19th
Hello Blogging Friends!!
I have another card today for this very special Card Drive and Fundraiser for NICU Parents at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital. It is a dream of Lea Lawson to be able to have this Card Drive Blog Hop. You can read Lea's personal story about her son Layton here.
In honor of Layton's birthday, Lea is raising money to purchase substantial Starbucks gift cards that can be given to these parents as they find themselves thrust into NICU life.
Why starbucks? There is one just across the street from the hospital, and Lea can attest that some days you just need to step out of the hospital for a moment. Get a breath of fresh air, see some natural light and regroup. She was given a $20 Starbucks card that had been donated to the NICU during the time her son was a patient, and she cried when she opened it. Getting that gift card told Lea that someone was thinking of her and taking care of her too!
Lea Lawson can only do so much as just one person, but together we can accomplish SO much more! Plus the crafting world is making it fun! There is a Card Drive blog hop going on in Layton's honor, with tons of amazing inspiration! There is also a fundraising effort, where every $5 donated gets you an entry into the prize drawing! There are over $2000 in prizes, sponsored by some of the most amazing stamping & papercrafting companies in the industry!
WAYS YOU CAN HELP:
1. DONATE! ~ directly to Layton's Legacy YouCaring Fundraiser. For every $5 donated, you will be entered into the drawing for one of the prizes. All winners will be drawn from donations made thru the YouCaring Site. **Prizes will be drawn and announced on Lea's Blog on Saturday, May 19th.**
2. SHARE! - Not everyone is able to donate, but sharing about the fundraiser gives it more visibility! Please feel free to share the YouCaring link or this post on all your social media outlets!
3. SHOP!! ~ CAS-ual Fridays Stamps will be donating 15% of their sales through May 19th.
4. CREATE ~ this is also a card drive, and if you'd like to create a card using the theme/mood board below, it would awesome! Lea will be including these handmade treasures with the gift cards when she hands them over to the NICU social worker, and her dream is that the NICU will be covered in beautiful creations inspired by Layton! Link them up HERE, and then please e-mail Lea at (lea@lealawsoncreates.com) to get the address for sending ~ and Lea will need to receive them May 31st.
Here is the Mood Board:
Here is my card:
Ingredients:
Neenah Desert Storm paper
Neenah Solar White paper
Versamark
Black Embossing powder
Black ink
Copic markers
Salty Ocean distress oxide
Broken China distress oxide
Faded Jeans distress oxide
Faded Jeans distress ink
White pen
For this A2 card I used Neenah Desert Storm paper for the base of the card. I took a piece of Tim Holtz distress watercolor paper and Salty Ocean, Broken China, and Faded Jeans distress oxide and my blending tool and rubbed the different colors onto the paper. I spritzed the paper with water and then dried it with a heat gun. I inked the edges with Faded Jeans distress ink and added that to the card base. I took a piece of Neenah Solar White paper, some black ink and the bear hugging the rabbit from the Winnie & Walter Welcome to the Family stamp set and stamped it onto the paper. I colored in the image with Copic markers and then fussy cut it out. I took my white pen and put some dots on the bear and the rabbit. I took the My Creative Time Carved Heart stamp, some Versamark and stamped the heart in the middle of the watercolor paper. I heat embossed it with Black embossing powder. Then I took the fussy cut bear & rabbit and glued that onto the card on top of the heart. I took some black ink and the sentiment from the Hear Arts Acts of Kindness stamp set and stamped the sentiment over the heart. I really like the way this turned out!
So beautiful, Lori!! The background color is so gorgeous!! And what a sweet image!! Have a great weekend!! Big hugs :)
